Luckily you have a tall boyfriend so you don't have to.
[Altair answered with a small smirk as he opened one of the tall cabinets. As much as he liked teasing Peace about being short they should look into having some cabinets she could reach. He was looking through the spices when he started getting dizzy again.]
[Altair weakly chuckled at her cute reaction before continuing his search. The colors all seemed to blend together. This was ridiculous. He should be able to find one orange bottle!
He was too tired to try to figure out what Peace meant by booster shots and vaccines right now so he just answered with a non committal hum. Her question made him pause and he tilted his head to the side with a sigh. ]
I'm not sure? Mages don't get sick and I was chosen when I was sixteen so sometime before that I guess. It feels like a lifetime ago so I barely remember it.
[ Sure, the trade off was the whole "magic powers he didn't want and also what appears to have been a boulder-sized chip on his shoulder," but.
Well, nevermind, there really wasn't any comparing apples and oranges in this case. She rested her chin on her arms and watched him as he hunted the jar. ]
I remember I got one really bad cold once and I was asleep for a week.
[It was hard to find anything positive to his magic sometimes but Peace's simple comment stopped him from dwelling on it too much and he laughed a little before it annoyingly turned into a small cough.]
That sounds awful. All I remember was being too weak to fight Vega who tried to stop me from fishing for a few days.
[There was a hint of sadness in his eyes when he mentioned his little sister.]
Aha! Found it!
[He turned around with a dramatic flourish, holding his prize. He regretted his decision as soon as the room started spinning and he leaned on the counter with a groan.]
[ Peace sighed at him and stood up, joining him at his side. She took the jar of cayenne pepper away from him and pressed her face in his chest. ]
Now it's your turn to sit down, let me make us some honey pepper tea, and then we can go back upstairs. But!!
[ She paused for effect, lifting her face from his chest, ] You're going to come cuddle with me and we're going to complain about this cold together, OK?
[Peace's touch was grounding and he leaned into her touch with a quiet purr like hum. His stubborn assurance that he was fine fizzled with her comfort and he gave in with a groan as he rested his head against her shoulder.]
That's not fair. How am I supposed to fight that Peace?
[He sulked against her shoulder for a minute. He suddenly felt more tired now that he wasn't fighting his cold and he was careful not to lean on her too much so they didn't both end up on the floor.]
Ok.
[He reluctantly pulled away and stumbled into a chair like she told him to.]
Not long [ Peace promises, before kissing the side of his head, her long tail lazily sweeping back and forth. ]
I put some honey and some nice tea in two cups, add a little cayenne for kick, and then pour hot water over all of it. It will be as long as it takes for the water to boil. How's that sound?
[ She strokes the back of his head with one hand, letting her blanket loosen and fall to the floor. All the better for him to borrow. ]
[His own sleek tail wrapped around hers as he recovered her blanket. It still had some of Peace's warmth and he closed his eyes as he snuggled into it. He answered with a hesitant hum.]
Hmm, I don't like tea that much but that sounds nice. Maybe put a bit of extra cayenne in mine. I like spice.
It's gonna make your nose run, [ Peace warns with a little laugh. Her tail wraps around his affectionately, and she sniffles as she gently pushes him towards the chair, not letting his tail go until it would be unwise to stay together that way. ]
Extra cayenne it is. Come on, I'll start the water up. You go sit. Tell me what they used when you were sick with a cold.
[ Peace turns her back to Altair and reaches for an extra cup. It sucks to think, but she remembers the recipe well enough: enough honey to climb up the smallest amount of the sides of the cup, mixed with one half spoonful of cayenne for her, a full one for Altair, two tea bags - one of echinacea, one of chamomile. Once the kettle began to whistle, she switched off the stove and poured the piping hot water over both cups, gently stirring them with a spoon until all the honey dissolves. ]
[His confident chuckle was lost to another coughing fit.]
I love spicy food. I'll be fine.
[Altair kept his tail wrapped around hers as long as he could before reluctantly letting it slip away. He already missed the feel of her fur and his tail swished impatiently as Peace made their tea. It was funny how she kept making him see things he hated in a better light, first her ridiculously large house that now felt like home, now tea and he watched her with a fond smile.]
[ It was better than that weird craving for lutefisk she kept having. That was gonna have to just keep being a weird craving, though. She heard it reeked.
Making sure that he had their (her) blanket, Peace tosses the teabags and puts the mugs and orange on a tray. ]
I would make spicier things, but this is about my limit. Actually, it might be a little over my limit.
[ Peace shivers and chuckles as she goes up the stairs. ]
[Well they can't have that. He would be forced to wait longer if she had to make more and he reached over to help her steady the tray before disaster struck.]
There's still hope for you then. I'll warn you when I'm making something spicy.
[It was a shame though. Spicy food ran through his fisherman's veins and he would have loved to share that with Peace. Could you build up a tolerance for spice?]

Ugh, what was I looking for again?

Cayenne pepper. It's an orange-red--
[ She stopped to cough, ducking her face into the blanket she held around her. ]
An orange-red color. You can't miss it.

Orange red...why don't you sit down while I look?
[That cough of hers didn't sound so good.]

I haven't had a cold in so long. Makes me glad I got the doctor to give me all those booster shots back then. And vaccines and whatever.
[ Did it really even matter when they could just come back? She wasn't sure, but she was glad either way. ]
What about you? When was the last time?

Not really.
[Maybe a little but cuddling sounded better.]

Let's go, love.

What would I do without you Peace?
[He felt a little dizzy when he stood up to follow Peace and he leaned into his fatigue a little to make his dramatic sigh feel more real.
How could I fall in love with someone who does like spicy things?
[He kissed her cheek with a teasing smile.]
It's a price I'll gladly pay for you.

I just can't handle them. Very important distinction, in my opinion.

I'll buy up all the pink stomach stuff just for it, promise.
[ Between the two trolls, they managed to make it up the stairs and into Peace's room. ]
You should stay with me and let's relax in here. Besides, I'm going to bet that us coughing in two different places sounds annoying as hell.
